We asked Robert:

How was your summer, do you miss football when it finishes or is it nice to just get away from it and relax?

It’s nice to get away these days, I don’t really miss it now I’m old. I do the things I don’t get time to do when the football season is on

Re-signed on for Athletic this summer, what influenced your choice and were there any other clubs that wanted you?

I re-signed because we have a good group of lads and management here, it’s also a nice club with good facilities, and the players get well looked after

How do you feel your early season games have gone for you personally so far?

Personally I think I’ve done ok, it has been a struggle so far this season with no settled team with so many people away or injured in the early part of the season, it’s not gone too well

What are the expectations and/or targets for the season for you yourself, and the squad as a whole?

I’d personally like to win a cup and get promoted, if we go on a good run which we are capable of we can bring ourselves back into promotion contention. I think getting top four is the main aim for the team this year

Who has been your biggest influence in football?

Steven Gerrard. Watching and admiring him play was always good

How much belief is there in the squad that you can have a successful season, and which players will be key for you to achieve this?

There is still a belief that we can do well, we know we have a good squad but we all need to perform better to get to where we want to be, keeping people like Robbie Carter fit and Josh (McAdoo) still performing well in goal will really help us to get there

Away at White Ensign in FA Vase action this week, do you know anything about them & what are you expecting from them?

I don’t really know anything about them to be honest. Whatever, it will be a tough game which we’re looking forward to

Who is the biggest moaner in the dressing room?

This is tough, both the Carter brothers love a moan on the pitch and I think Cruiser is a good moaner too

Robbie Carter

What is your typical pre-match routine before you get to the ground?

I don’t really have a routine, I’m usually just rushing around to get ready as I go to work on Saturday morning’s for a few hours then it’s a quick shower, change and off to football

In your current squad, who is the most under rated player in your opinion?

Kevin (Owusu), he’s a quality player who works hard for the team and on his day can be unplayable

Who has the worst dress sense at the club?

I’d say Griff the manager, he does wear some bad clothes, especially some of his shoes

When you leave the football pitch on a Saturday, what is the first result you look for elsewhere, and why?

I check the Liverpool score first and then usually check my old team Newport Pagnell to see how they have got on

Who is the last person you would let choose the music in the dressing room (or car) on matchday, and why?

There’s too many to choose from, some of the music these days is shocking

What’s the one game this season you most want to win and why?

The MK Robins game. Loads of my old teammates play for them now so it would be nice to win that one

Finally, after you’ve scored a hatrick on Saturday, what can supporters buy you in the bar afterwards?

A pint of Stella would be lovely

Sports Shots would like to thank Robert for his time this week
