We asked Jack:

How was your summer, do you miss football when it finishes or is it nice to just get away from it and relax?

The break was a bit different for me this year due to me missing large parts of last season through injury. I trained pretty much every day throughout the summer, everyone misses football but probably none more so than me, so I was eager to get pre-season started

Re-signed on for The Ducks this summer, what influenced your choice and were there any other clubs that wanted you?

I was always going to stay at Aylesbury United, there was no question about that. Ben has shown a lot of faith in me from the moment I signed here, the boys are a great bunch and we’ve got the best set of supporters in the league so what more could you ask for?

How do you feel your early season games have gone for you personally so far?

I’m always extra critical when it comes to my own performances but with seven or eight clean sheets in the league I can’t complain, so long may it continue!

What are the expectations and/or targets for the season for you yourself, and the squad as a whole?

I always set high individual targets each season I’ve played, and this year is no different, our early season defensive record speaks for itself really and that’s not just down to me, we defend as a team and everyone plays a part in that. As a group, if we keep up the form and desire we’ve shown so far this season, we won’t be far off come May

Who has been your biggest influence in football?

My biggest influence in football has to be my old man. From kicking the ball around at the park near enough every evening growing up, to managing my Sunday side from U6’s – U18’s, even now he still comes and watches near enough every game I play. It could never be anyone else

How much belief is there in the squad that you can have a successful season, and which players will be key for you to achieve this?

All you have to do is look at how well we’ve started the season to see that everyone believes in what we are trying to do. The most impressive thing that stands us apart from a lot of teams at our level I believe is we are a tight knit group and everyone will work their nuts off for the cause, so as long as we maintain that we’ll not be far off as we have a lot of quality in the squad from back to front

Home this week to Sevenoaks in the FA Trophy this week, do you know anything about them & what are you expecting from them?

I don’t much about them if I’m being honest, but it will be another tough game that we’ll have to be at it from the first moment to the last to try and progress into the next round

Who is the biggest moaner in the dressing room?

I would be lying if I didn’t say myself. I think it would be fair to say that all the lads would probably give the same answer to this question as well

What is your typical pre-match routine before you get to the ground?

I’m up nice and early on Saturday mornings because of the coaching myself, Harry Jones, Jacob Hutchinson and Connor Hearn do with Mini Ducks. Apart from that I’m not really one for routines until I get to the ground

In your current squad, who is the most under rated player in your opinion?

I would have to say Lewis Osbourne, some of the footwork he shows at times is absurd

Who has the worst dress sense at the club?

That’s a tough one. I would have to say Luke Robertson our physio. I am good mates with Luke, and he won’t mind me saying that some of the stuff he wears is definitely ‘out there’!

When you leave the football pitch on a Saturday, what is the first result you look for elsewhere, and why?

It has to be Liverpool, I’ve supported them all my life and am a massive fan as everyone already knows, then after that I look for Tring Athletic as I spent three fantastic years there. I will always look out for their results and it’s great to see them flying high this season and long may that continue

Anthony Ball

Who is the last person you would let choose the music in the dressing room (or car) on matchday, and why?

That would have to be Anthony Ball, just from his choices on the matchday playlist I can tell his taste is not my cup of tea

What’s the one game this season you most want to win and why?

It would have to be Thame United away. I live in Thame myself and I feel like I have unfinished business at Thame from when I was just starting out playing men’s football

Finally, after you’ve saved a hatrick of penalties on Saturday, what can supporters buy you in the bar afterwards?

Well we’ve already given away three penalties in one game this season, so I hope that doesn’t happen again!

Sports Shots would like to thank Jack for his time this week
