Great Horwood CC – 192-6 off forty overs
Soulbury Village CC – 157 all out off 36.1 overs
Great Horwood went top of the Four Counties Cricket League Division Two table on Saturday after beating Soulbury Village, and with Newport Pagnell losing for the second successive week Stuart Parker’s men swapped places although the top five places in the league are now separated by just thirty points. Horwood saw half centuries from both Parker and Dale Armitage help set a target of one hundred & ninety-three for the visitor’s to win, but they were bowled out thanks in the main to Dale Armitage again who claimed a 5’fer, as the away side fell short by thirty-five runs.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, Parker paired alongside Sam Willett put forty-six on the board before the latter was bowled with his score on twenty-eight, Armitage joined his skipper at the crease in a partnership worth a huge ninety-one runs until Nick Mead removed his bales just as he passed the half century mark, Simon Ridgway & Parker added a further thirty-five until Parker was bowled with his total on sixty. Three further wickets fell in quick succession from there although Ridgway went on to make thirty-two before he was caught, Aamir Butt the best of the bowlers finishing with four wickets for thirty-six runs off his eight overs.
In reply three of the first four Soulbury batsmen reached double figures as they chased down the target, Nadeem Akhtar top scored making thirty-six until he was caught by Parker off the bowling of Billy Harper, but Dale Armitage’s 5’fer ripped through the middle order although Ben Cook hung around to make eighteen, Nick Mead twelve and Andrew McKinnon eleven not out but Armitage’s fifth wicket of the afternoon ended the game in Horwood’s favour, his final figures reading five wickets for just fifteen runs off thirty-one balls.
