HCPCL D1; All Round Hall guides Town to victory

Reported By Andrew Holland

Horspath were the visitors to Bourton Road on Saturday, and after a lengthy rain delay they won toss and put their hosts in to bat in a 37 over aside game.

Asad Rafiq bowled a good opening spell in which he removed both the Buckingham openers as he reduced them to 31 for 2.  Andrew Hall came in at number 3 and after some early boundaries settled in against the Horspath spinners.  The Buckingham middle order all made starts without anyone going on to make a significant score, and although Hall went to his half century (70 balls) at the other end, with 7 overs to go the score had slipped to 124 for 6 as Lloyd Belcher finished his spell with 2 for 28 from 8 overs.  Skipper Jack Parish came to the wicket and with Hall added some quick late runs as they put on 51 in 6 and a half overs for the seventh wicket. Hall fell for 74 in the final over as Buckingham finished on a score of 183 for 7, Parish finishing 23 not out from 19 balls.

In reply Russell White removed both the Horspath openers inside of two overs in a superb opening spell in which he and George Humphries restricted the visitors to 28 for 2 in the first 12 overs.  Tom Cosford and Daryll Brown survived the opening spells and began to pick up the run rate against the Buckingham change bowlers.  The pair put on 95, and had begun to turn the game in Horspath’s favour when Parish had Cosford caught on the boundary for 45 and followed that with a second wicket in his next over.  Brown had reached his 50 but then holed out to Hall on the boundary for 52 as Horspath lost 3 wickets for 16 runs.  Kyle Hooper and Jay Parmar tried to rebuild the innings but the run rate was climbing steadily and when Hall picked up 2 wickets in an over Horspath were left needing 46 from the final 5 overs.  Skipper Will Eason added 17 from 16 balls at the end but Horspath ended up falling 20 runs short as they finished 163 for 8.  Hall took 3 for 41 to go with his 74 while White (2 for 13) and Parish (2 for 35) offered good support.

The result sees Buckingham climb up to 5th in the table ahead of the switch to the timed format next week as Buckingham travel to unbeaten Henley.
