Buckingham Town CC II’s travel to Westbury on Saturday looking to get back on track after losing their last three league games, their hosts have a similar record having won their first game of the campaign but then losing all three since and sit one place and one point above their guests going into this Cherwell Cricket League Division One match.
This week Sports Shots caught up with Town skipper Steve Beck to find out how he felt last Saturday’s home defeat to Abingdon Vale went:
I was disappointed in the result as I think they are a team that we should be competing with at the end of the season. We started off poorly and they got off to a flyer, fifty without loss off just seven overs which has been a habit this year, we then dragged it back really well with some excellent spells from Andy Humphries who conceded just twenty-eight runs off ten overs, Nick Bond who in seven overs only conceded twenty-nine runs, Ben Curley took three wickets for thirty-three runs off five overs and Gregg Liebenberg took three for ten in his second spell with the ball to leave them one hundred & thirty-seven for seven. Then Henry Pickford came in and rescued them again and they finished two hundred and forty-one for nine, which was probably fifty too many. The response started well with Matt Thatcher and Rob Lightfoot getting us to seventy-four for a single wicket, but the loss of quick wickets and the increasing run rate made it a hard and a disappointing chase in the end
Onto this week and the short trip to Westbury, what are the team expecting?
The game against Westbury will be the first time I have played against them, although I did play for them many years ago in the mid-week league, and we know it will be tough. They are a young side that have flown up through the divisions so fair play to them. They know how to play their ground very well and have scored a lot of runs there in the past. We have some more experience back in the team this week so I see it being a close match
This week’s team news?
