Ascot United U14 – 3
Widmer End U14 – 3
(Ascot win 2-1 on penalties)
Ascot lifted the Berks & Bucks Under Fourteen County Cup on Saturday at Bracknell Town in a thrilling game that had it all, an early two goal lead left those in the yellow & blue looking comfortable but their opposition came out after the half-time break a different side and were level within fifteen minutes, they then scored what they thought was a late winner however they themselves were then pinned back to take to the game into a shootout, the woodwork and some great saves finally seeing the United side prevail two-one.
Ascot took the lead on nine minutes from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, within a minute that lead was doubled with an exquisite chip over the keeper from twenty yards & their lead looked promising at the break. Widmer came out for the second period all guns blazing and after hitting the bar & seeing the Ascot keeper save on his six-yard line they pulled a goal back just two minutes in after a goal mouth melee eventually saw the ball slotted home at the back post. A thumping header from a corner levelled the game with twenty-two minutes left, the rest of the half saw both sides go close but in added time Widmer scored from a corner which they thought was enough to clinch the game, however a free kick to their opponents saw confusion in the box and a late late leveller to take the game into penalties.
Widmer scored the first spot kick, United levelled before the second for the team in blue was saved, before Ascot could celebrate their next attempt came back off the post but then their opponent’s next spot kick was wide. Ascot took the lead & then watched as their keeper made a magnificent save, the next United effort missed but the fifth Widmer penalty was saved leaving the United keeper swamped by his ecstatic team mates.
