Pitstone & Ivinghoe – 1
Mursley United – 0
Mursley United made the journey to Pitstone & Ivinghoe on Saturday (19th January 2019) and were defeated 1-0.
The visitors welcomed back Luke Williamson from injury and he slotted in at right back, replacing the absent Anthony Lands.
The hosts started brightly and were ahead within three minutes when a swift counter-attack saw Ryan Mellor finish neatly past Dan Willett. Following this slow start, Mursley started to get a foothold in the game and Nathan Skelton’s effort from eighteen yards came back off the bar. Tom Brazier also had an effort turned away by Steve Birchenall in the home goal. In one of Pitstone’s intermittent attacks, Willett made a fine double save from Kieran Doughty to keep the visitors in the game.
Mursley dominated the second period, although the home side still looked dangerous on the break and with five minutes remaining, Austin Dickson bore down on Birchenall as he came out of his area to clear; the latter drove the ball against the striker and the ball rebounded agonisingly past the post. This was the last chance for Mursley who left without a point which many felt they deserved.
