Buckingham Athletic edged past Buckingham Town 2-1 to reach the 3rd round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy on Saturday.
There was little to choose between the two sides on a very wet afternoon at Stratford Fields.
The Athletic struggled to find their rhythm against a well-drilled Town outfit, in a well-contested first 45 minutes.
The second period started in much of the same fashion as the first before Robbie Carter directed a powerful header into the net from the edge of the area in the 55th minute.

Thirteen minutes later Carter smashed in a cross to double the home side’s advantage. The Athletic striker’s second strike of the game took his tally to seven goals in three games in a fruitful week.
With five minutes remaining it was Town skipper Sam Bearman who handed his side a late lifeline. The central defender judged a long flighted free-kick excellently as he got between two Athletic defenders to direct his header into the opposite corner.
Just sixty seconds later Town regained possession, broke, and a right-wing cross saw substitute Jamie Atkins head agonisingly over.
The Athletic held on to progress with manager Neil Griffiths talking to Sports Shots directly after the game (See below).
