The weekend Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, second round clash between Buckingham Athletic and Buckingham Town has thrown up a number of old rivalries.
The two Buckingham clubs have the normal competitive edge which has been around for many, many decades.
Neil Griffiths has managed both clubs while a number of players have donned the colours of both.
One of those players, Drew Mitten, spoke to Sports Shots this week off of the back of some impressive results.
Mitten told Sports Shots:
The season has started well. We have got a bit of consistency going recently both in the team selection and performances which is starting to show in our results.
With the league form comes a change of direction as the county cup arrives on the fixture list this Saturday. But where does the competition rank for the Athletic camp.
Highly is the simple answer. The club wants to breed success and in winning trophies there is no better way to do that. We have a young, minus Tappo, hungry side and hopefully we can progress on Saturday.
There are many friendships across this local cup tie, some very, very close ones. Mitten has known and played with Town striker Vinny Shrieves but, as always, such friendships will be put to one side for the 90 minutes.
It is a good challenge for us and a slightly different one to our games so far. It will be a very physical game, no doubt about that but we just need to keep doing what we have been the last few weeks. Vinny is a good mate of mine and I am certain he will be very well behaved on Saturday but Josh McAdoo has ordered an ice hockey goalie kit just to be on the safe side! Tel (Robins boss Terry Shrieves) will have them well-drilled and organised, that is a given. It will be a very tough game but one which we are looking forward to.
In closing, Mitten wanted to take the opportunity to add some banter to his own dressing room.
Can we please publicly hammer Luca Semeneiro for some of his comments in his recent interview for the Broxbourne 4-1 win. We will avoid selecting him for any pub quiz teams in future!
