Great Horwood got their season going on Saturday & upset the form guide with a brilliant win over Eaton Bray, winning by eight wickets which included an unbeaten 63 from Sam Willett. The visitor’s won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 129 off their allocated overs but Horwood reached their target with the loss of just 2 wickets to take the victory, their first of the season.
Eaton Bray lost their first two wickets for just 4 runs, but recovered before losing 4 wickets inside 27 runs to leave them 65-6. Again a mini recovery saw them reach 103 before their seventh wicket fell, two more fell before their 40 overs lapsed, Nick Pearson top scorer for the away side with 29, closely followed by Josh Peacock with 23 and Jaco Jacobs with 21. Robby Taylor took 3 wickets and finished on 9 overs with 4 maidens taking his 3 wickets for just 13 runs, with Haydon Morrison & Ollie Prendergast taking a pair of wickets each.
Skipper Stuart Parker & Willett opened for Horwood, reaching 77 before Parker was trapped LBW on 39, Ken Cronshaw soon followed but Willet hit his 63 assisted at the opposite end by Dale Armitage to see the home side claim the win with forty-four balls to spare.
