Mursley United joint manager Jamie Lands has spoken to Sports Shots ahead of the visit of Loughton Manor in the Spartan South Midlands League, Division 2 on Saturday afternoon.
Lands told Sports Shots:
After leaving Olney, I joined Mursley in December.
I’m looking forward to new the challenge ahead. Mursley are a good club with plans to progress over the next few years and I want to be part of that success.
This season so far Ant (Lands’ brother) has done a great job in building a solid base of players. Now together, we are looking to push on again. To do this, we have brought in a couple of new players already, with possibly a couple more soon. We have challenged the existing squad to be more committed and we are looking to add a goalkeeper coach to bolster the management team.
Things now are looking good for 2018 and the squad has lots of potential. Top five is now the target, which we believe is achievable with the current squad.
In our last game we took on Clean Slate, who although bottom, drew with Park View, who were top of the league, in their previous game. We knew they would be no push overs but were confident ahead of the game. On a very wet pitch we managed to play some good football. It was a comfortable win in the end and we managed to rest players too. The only downside being the goal conceded. Simon, Pete and Del with the goals on the day
There were also some good performances on Saturday, including the new lads who played their first game.
Next up is Loughton, my old team, who are now on a 5-game unbeaten run and no doubt full of confidence going into Saturday after their last win.
The last time the two sides met, Mursley won the game 4-3 so Loughton will be wanting revenge and with Jim, Rikki and Russell in good form, so we will need to defend well.
We prepare with one or two missing but are bolstered with the return of Jamie and Adam.
It is 2pm kick off, it will be a good game, so come along and support a couple of local teams!
