Olney Town v Buckingham Town
United Counties League Division One
Olney Town host Buckingham Town on Boxing Day with both clubs looking to bounce back from week-end defeats, in the first of this seasons UCL Division One Derbies. Both sides can climb the table with a win if other results go their way, and Buckingham can potentially reclaim second spot in the league table with three points in their battle for promotion. An early kick off (1pm) at East Street is eagerly awaited as both sides resume the fight for local pride.
Sports Shots spoke to Buckingham Towns Stephen Gavrovski ahead of the game, and asked what he expects:
We know we need to bounce back on Tuesday, and it’s always a big game when we play Olney. We go into the game after losing on Saturday but we all know what we have to do to put things right again. Both sides will see the game as a must win scenario
We asked if his squad are confident of getting a result at East Street?
I think with the depth of our squad now, and our strength, we can beat anyone on our day. It will be a battle on Tuesday like it is every year we play them, but I believe we will get back to winning ways and put Saturday behind us
Again, Stephen concentrated on the squad rather than individuals to win the game:
All our players need to turn up and be ready from the first whistle. We are a team and if everyone is on the job and on their game from the off then we will be very difficult to beat
Finally, we looked at the Christmas schedule for players:
Playing on Boxing Day has become the norm since moving to Buckingham, we’ve had this fixture every year since I’ve been here. We enjoy Christmas Day with family & friends but come Boxing Day morning your mind is on the game, it’s an early kick off so there is plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day
Sports Shots would like to thank Stephen for his time this week.
