SSMFL,D1: Winslow boy Freshwater following in family tradition

Ryan Freshwater is following in family footsteps as he lines up for another derby in Winslow United colours against neighbours Buckingham Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

United come into the game with confidence after a positive midweek display in the quarter-final of the Spartan South Midlands League, Challenge Trophy, despite defeat.

We showed them too much respect in the first half and that was enough to see us go in at halftime 2-0 down but we came out for the second half on the front foot and pressed them high up the pitch for the whole 45 minutes we got a goal back which gave us a foothold in the game and made us push even more and we created loads of chances but we just could not put the ball in the back of the net! We just needed to play the whole 90 mins in the manner in which we played the second half and I’m sure we would have come away with a positive result.

Freshwater is confident going into the derby.

Thoughts are very positive heading into Saturday we have a very strong squad with plenty of depth and we have been playing some great football recently and I’m sure we will take this into Saturday’s game as everyone knows how important the game is and what it means to the club and there is a real buzz in the squad, with everyone bang up for it!

The derby game is the biggest in the calendar but Winslow will need to keep producing high-level performances if they are to look to gain promotion this season.

The season is going really well we are doing very well in the league and are still in a few cups and we are winning a lot of games as well. The atmosphere is great throughout the team we’ve got a good bunch of players here and I’m really enjoying playing with them! It’s my first year playing for Paul, Roni and Garbs and I can only say positive things about them!

Having experienced both winning and losing, Freshwater is looking forward to Saturday afternoon.

It’s great to win a derby like this I’m sure it is for everyone. It’s a great game to play in lots of supporters come and watch which is really good to see and it makes the win even better when lots of people are fully behind the team! So yes it would be quality to win the game and celebrate with a few beers after the game!

In closing, Freshwater said.

Other thoughts just want to thank everyone at Sports Shots for their continued coverage and support and also everyone behind the scenes at Winslow United.
