SSMFL,D1: Winslow skipper talks derbies and 3 Kings at Christmas

Winslow United skipper Simon King has spoken to Sports Shots as he looks forward to facing a Buckingham Athletic side on Saturday who he has also donned the colours for in the big local derby.

Simon King

King told Sports Shots;

I think I have played in about eight, and only lost twice when Winslow did the double that season.

These games have brought some great memories for the United skipper from his time at the gate, and not just on the pitch.

I have played with some quality players along the way, winning some cups, and also Colin O’Dell always getting people drunk!

He also remembers his time at Stratford Fields fondly.

Again I have played with some great players, also winning cups, always great team moral and spirit as it was always with mates.

Simon King scores the first goal as Winslow United win the 2011 Spartan South Midlands League, Division 2 cup.

This derby sees King play with brother Aaron, while his other brother Neil is this season in the Athletic camp.

Neil King

We have only ever played on the same team when all three of us were at Bedford Town.

He did have time to have some brotherly banter too.

Unfortunately I don’t think Neil is fit to play, which is a shame as I was looking forward to keeping him in my pocket!

In closing King added.

I would just like to say thanks to everyone at Sports Shots for all your hard work, and come on the yellow and blues!
