SSMFL,LCT 2R: Aston Clinton manager previews cup tie against higher-level opposition

Aston Clinton manager Jordan King has spoken to Sports Shots as his side prepare to host premier division outfit Edgware Town in the Spartan South Midlands League, Challenge Trophy, second round on Saturday, 2pm.

The division 2 outfit is looking forward to the challenge against higher opposition, with King also reflecting on last Saturday’s Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy tie.

King said;

I think we did ourselves a bit of an injustice after our first half performance on Saturday. In the second half it was a lot more of what we are about. That’s the performance we need to be putting in for long periods of the game, regardless of who we play.

We know this Saturday is going to be a tough test, I know some bits and pieces about them. I managed to go and watch them Tuesday night and they played very well against an in-form Berko’ side. We will be playing to win, as we did against Harpenden Town in the previous round. We always step up our performance against higher-level opposition.

Its the first time we have played at home since September, so hopefully we get a good crowd coming to watch!

We are missing a couple for this weekend, Michael Harper is away, Alec Bell is struggling with a back problem, but we welcome back Luke Russell, who has missed the last month with a foot injury and Chris Shennan who comes back from holiday on Friday.

My plans for this season is to give the club back some silverware, something that it has been missing for a number of years now and to also put them into a position to progress to a higher division.

Last season finishing joint third was fantastic in a tough division, but we are definitely looking to better that this season!

I would also personally like to thank all the volunteers at Aston Clinton FC, without them the club wouldn’t still be here. It has certainly had some tough years recently but hopefully we are on the correct path to putting it back to where the club should be.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone involved at Sports Shots for giving us the opportunity to have the great coverage that other local sides are having. #uptheaston
