SSMFL,D2: Late Clarke header earns Mursley a point

By Justin Daley

Mursley United hosted Berkhamsted Raiders on Saturday and claimed a 1-1 draw very late in the game.

Missing the suspended Ellis Spence and Adam Bone in midfield, mangaer Anthony Lands pushed Adam Moore forward into a midfield role and brought in Andy Gray to play. The opening exchanges showed the visitors on the front foot as Mursley worked to contain the pace of their young opponents. It was the visitors who scored first, Mentah finishing off a flowing move from close range after twenty minutes. They also rattled the crossbar and Mursley were pleased to get to the break only one goal behind.

The hosts looked better in the second period with Steve Mooney replacing Gray and working hard to get the home side flowing again.

With twenty minutes remaining, Lands introduced Gary Thomas and Rafik Asryan for Ozite Cribb and Jamie Green and Mursley pressed hard for the equaliser. Lewis Delahaye’s shot came back off the bar and several attacks lacked a finishing product until four minutes into stoppage time when a floated free kick from Jordan McDougall was met by an unmarked Danny Clarke from six yards and headed into the net.
