Tonight Grendon Rangers make the trip to Brickfield Lane to take on AFC Southgate in the SSMFL Challenge Trophy. This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Whilst both sides compete in Division Two of the league, their two records are currently polar opposites. AFC Southgate sit 3rd with 5 wins from 7 games whilst Rangers are second bottom and yet to register a win.
Southgate knocked Division Two Cup holders Mursley United out of this years competition at the weekend with a tight 2-3 victory.
Rangers meanwhile were toiling away at 61FC (Luton), twice coming from behind to secure a valuable point as the side look to move away from the foot of the table. Goals from Jason Riddell and Matt Ginger securing the point.
With Rangers improving this has the makings of an exciting game. AFC Southgate boast the top goalscorer across all 3 divisions in the shape of Adem Ali so keeping a close eye on him will be top of the priority list.
GRFC Manager Stuart Leonard had this to say;
We travel strong again tomorrow, with only Charlie West unavailable from Saturdays squad through work commitments. Jordan Garrad and Paul Thornton still injured and Andy Prescott and Ricky Brown still on holiday.
Very positive performance and result on Sat. 61FC is always a tough place to go and we showed great character to come back twice. Showing good signs of improvement now and we’re hopeful of climbing the table, which is our main focus. At Southgate will be a tough game, coupled with the usual midweek travel difficulties, but we’re looking forward to it and will approach it positively.
