Great Horwood suffered a 6 wicket defeat at Wolvercote on Saturday.
After winning the toss Horwood opted to bat first and openers Stuart Parker and Sam Willett set about building a platform for the innings as they shared a partnership of 87 in the first 25 overs so with 20 overs remaining Horwood were well set to post a decent score. Willet fell first for 39 and Parker then fell shortly after for 47 and Horwood were unable to get the momentum required in the final overs despite 17 from Glyn Davies and 15 from Chris Mcstraw. The innings fell a little flat and Horwood closed on 161-8.
Wolvercote followed suit as there openers also got their innings off to a steady start with a partnership of 49 when Adam Armitage got the breakthrough in the 16th over. Horwood were able to stem the flow of runs as Wolvercote only managed to add 36 in the next 15 overs and when Dale Armitage picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls they were well in the game, so after 30 overs the score was 85-3.
Wickets in hand proved to be vital though as Wolvercote were able to chance their arm in the final 15 overs and even another wicket from Dale Armitage couldn’t prevent them reaching their total with 2 overs to spare.
