Top-of-the-table Olney proved too strong for Padbury as they recorded a fine 7-2 victory thanks to four superbly taken goals from Marlon Waites, a double from Ben Ramsden and substitute Matt Viney scoring the goal of the game with a fine long range effort which flew into the top corner.

Padbury player-manager Craig Rumble had concerns before the game as he has been unable to field a regular squad in recent matches. New signing Ellis Jones was a named substitute for Padbury.

Olney dominated the game from the kick off with Marlon Waites and Charlie Malcolm working well together and Olney looking dangerous coming forward. Waites had a couple of opportunities to break the deadlock with a couple of headers that went wide of the post before finally scoring in the 16th minute when appeals for offside were turned down; Waites was able to capitalise and slotted the ball neatly past Sam Walker.

Waites scored again three minutes later when he was able to meet a superbly taken floating cross from the right and beat keeper Walker to the ball to head into the net.

Olney were well organised playing neat passing football. Ben Ramsden hit the crossbar and Alex Smail went narrowly wide with a superb diving header as Olney pressed hard to increase the lead.

Walker denied Waites a hat-trick in the 38th minute by pulling off a good diving save, however Waites sealed his hat trick just before half time when following a great through ball. He was able to outpace the Padbury defence and was able to fire the ball past Walker with a neat low finish to put Olney 3-0 up at half time.

Olney increased the lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute when Charlie Malcolm pin-point pass found Ben Ramsden who slotted the ball home.

Charlie Malcolm was denied a goal himself shortly afterwards when Walker pulled off a fine save as Olney continued to pile on the pressure.

Padbury’s Tom Marshall had an opportunity to pull a goal back following a great run from Luke Davies his cross found Marshall who shot narrowly wide.

Olney increased the lead in the 71st minute when Walker pulled off a fine point-black save from Marlon Watkins’ shot, however the loose ball found Ramsden who slotted in from close range.

Matt Viney made it 6-0 to Olney with a fine long range effort which sailed into the top corner.

With ten minutes left Padbury did create a few opportunities. Tom Marshall powerful effort forced a good save from Olney goalkeeper Robert Mungham.

Luke Davies pulled a goal back for Padbury scoring from close range before.

Olney’s Watkins scored his fourth with a fine individual solo effort to make it 7-1 to Olney.

Davies scored another consultation goal for Padbury hitting a superb volley from Liam Moran’s corner to make the final scoreline 7-2.
