Great Horwood progressed into the second round of the North Bucks Reserve Team challenge trophy thanks to a late winner by Ryan Tapping.
In an evenly balanced game Great Horwood created the earliest opportunities . In the ninth minute Dom McCabe’s low testing shot forced Yardley keeper Liam Coles to pull off a diving save which was parried away and was cleared to safety by the Yardley defence. A minutes later James Baker’s dangerous cross from the right hand side beat all players including Yardley goalkeeper Coles but the ball was scrambled off the line.
However against the run of play the visitors took the lead. Carl Stokes superb cross into the area found Max Taylor-Smith who fired the ball home with a neat low finish. Horwood however continued to work hard and played some good passing football despite the muddy conditions after the previous night’s rain. McCabe had a great opportunity to equalise when beating the offside trap his powerful shot was wonderfully tipped over the bar by Coles.  Taylor-Smith also had an opportunity at the other end to double Yardley’s lead when his shot went narrowly wide following a good through ball by Glen Clarke.
In the 41st minute Great Horwood equalised through McCabe. Nick Reid dispossessed the opponent with a fine tackle and Read’s pinpoint pass found McCabe who slotted the ball past Coles with a neat finish. Tapping could have given Horwood the lead before half time however his shot, whilst clean through on goal, went narrowly wide.

Horwood started the second half as they left the first when McCabe shot narrowly wide following a superb pass from Callum Farnborough. Yardley found the pace of McCabe difficult to deal with however they defended bravely and goalkeeper Coles commanded his area very well. Yardley did work hard and played some attractive football. James Turner’s powerful shot went over the bar following a great through ball from Martin Rock. Clarke nearly regained the lead for Yardley when he capitalised on a rare mistake by Scott Wilson. Wilson’s poor clearance went straight to Clarke but his shot was bravely cleared off the line by James Baker. The visitors were gaining confidence and were piling on the pressure. Stuart Fennemore and Clarke both had headers that went wide of the post. James Colley also beat the Horwood offside trap but his effort  was saved by Wilson. However the home looked dangerous on the breakaway and with the game heading to extra time Horwood were able to find the winner in the last moments of the game.  Farnborough’s dangerous pass found Tapping who was clean through on goal and with his pace was able to beat the Yardley defence and slot the ball neatly home to seal victory for  Horwood and see them progress to the next round.
