On Saturday Marsh Gibbon travel to Wolvercote in OCA Division 3, looking to build on their positive start to the season.
Skipper Stuart Leonard has had a welcome selection issues this week, having 16 players to choose from. Vice-skipper Matt Mead is rested with an ankle problem, Grant Cross comes in for his first start this year and Gibbon are boosted by the return of Joe Leonard, who will be making his second debut for the club having returned from Cublington.
Team to face Wolvercote:
Stuart Leonard, Carl Needham, Joe Leonard, Grant Cross, Julian Chambers, Nathan Callow, Charlie Shipperley, Tom Leonard, Sat Vadivale, Michael Timms & Sam Richardson.
Leonard said “It’s a welcome issue to have so many players to pick from this week and we will need all the strength in depth as Wolvercote are a well-drilled outfit who should be up there at the end of the season. We travel full of optimism with a strong line-up looking to get the result. The season has started positively for us, particularly with the midweek side and not having a game for two Saturdays in succession now means that the boys are really motivated for the weeks ahead. We are starting to build for the future now, with a really good group of youngsters shining through, so all is shaping up nicely.”
Fringford progressed to the semi-finals of the Advertiser Cup with a victory over Marsh Gibbon last night.
Batting first, Fringford posted 140 for their OCA Division 3 opponents Marsh.
Despite their best efforts it was Fringford who won through to set up a semi-final at Gawcott & Hillesden on Monday 2nd June.

This compliments a positive start to the season for the OCA Division 3 outfit who despite going down to Witney Swifts in their first game, showed signs for a really bright season with an impressive crop of young players on display.
The club has also invested in a new bowling machine for their players to practice their skills and secured a sponsorship deal with Oxford-based financial advice firm Sadika Vale, who have kindly provided the club with kit for the season, given free to each player.
To add to this, the club is buoyed by the return to the club of prolific run scorer Joe Leonard, who has rejoined following a successful spell with Cherwell League Division 2 side Cublington. Leonard scored over 650 runs in his last season for Gibbon and will be looking to go even better this term.
Club chairman Carl Needham said “things have started really positively for the club this season and despite narrowly losing our first game, the signs are there for an impressive season with a group of really good youngsters coming through to work with our more experienced heads. The purchase of the new bowling machine and kit sponsorship has shown our intention to keep moving forward and the resigning of Joe Leonard will strengthen things even further. We urge anyone from local clubs who wish to come and join in the coaching we are providing for local youngsters to get in contact, as this is an exciting community project we’d like to get other clubs involved in”.
