Great Horwood took full advantage of sides around them dropping points as they defeated Thornborough Athletic to go joint top of the North Bucks & District Football League.
Adam Dixon scored twice as the Intermediate Division Champions went to the top of the division as their amazing run under Terry Cronin continues.
Horwood started the game at full strength and faced ‘boro at a good time as the visitors were without Al Hoggart, Dale Wallace, Tony Davies, Paul Talbot and Dave Dykes.
Danny Campbell took charge with Neal Kidwell unavailable with ‘boro unbeaten in their previous six matches in a run of games going back to November.
Dixon struck twice for the title-chasing Horwood and collected all three points despite Tom Kelsall scoring for the visitors.
The win takes Horwood to the summit as both Potterspury and Loughton Manor were held by Stewkley and Yardley Gobion respectively.
Potterspury’s draw at Stewkley saw the morning leaders drop valuable points but they were without leading scorers Adam Kelly and Martin Blackwell in addition to their two central defenders – Dean Lyden and Danny Shephard – for the game.
Loughton Manor were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw at bottom side Yardley Gobion after twice coming from behind to level the score at the break.
The second period saw Gobion almost snatch the points with minutes remaining but their goal was disallowed for an infringement.
In a day of surprising results, Grendon Rangers went down to a 1-6 defeat at Brackley Sports.
Mark Mousden scored after just three minutes, before Eric Carpenter (7), Adam Williams (13) and Darren Cox (20) put Sports four goals ahead in the opening period.
Carpenter (41) netted his second before Andy Prescott’s goal a minute before the break saw Rangers go in six down.
The visitors did pull a goal back in the 73rd minute through Cameron Macpherson.
